No. 19 Lakehawk Softball Overpowers Queens College on Tuesday Afternoon

LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Behind 26 hits and 23 runs scored, the Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball team extended their win streak to nine after taking two from Queens College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lakehawks won game one 10-1 and game two 14-3.  

Game One – Lake-Sumter 10, Queens College 1

The Lakehawks brought the heat in game one against Queens College. The Lakehawks took game one from the Knights 10-1 in five innings.

Molly Bender, Reese Snipes, Makenzi Heaton, and Alex Baez are registered two hits. Raquel Camuglia, Snipes, and Bender all added homeruns including a grand slam by Bender in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Snipes' two-run homerun in the third inning was her seventh of the season. She now ties for fifth in program history for homeruns in a single season with Taylor Douglas (2014) and Aleena Olmoen (2007).

Ali Shenefield improved to 10-0 on the season after throwing five innings allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts. With yesterday's win, Shenefield now ties for third in program history for wins in a single season with Lakehawk softball alums Allie Geier (2019) and Jasmine McQuaig (2018).

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 14, Queens College 3

The Lakehawks wasted no time in game two taking the lead over Queens College after scoring eight in the bottom of the first inning.

The Knights tried to respond but only managed two runs in the top of the second and one in the top of the third. The Lakehawk offense tacked on four more in the bottom of the third and two in the fourth to secure their mercy rule lead.

Desiree Romeo, Bender, Snipes, and Heaton all had multiple hits in game two, Heaton adding the fourth Lakehawk homerun of the day.

Snipes hit for the cycle in the double header with a triple and a homerun in game one and a double with a pair of base hits in game two.

Darian Pippin is now 7-3 on the season after throwing five innings allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout. Pippin's seventh win of the season brings her to 18 for her career at Lake-Sumter to tie assistant coach Abbey Primavera at second all-time in program history.

For career records, Pippin also now ties for third in complete games (16), ties for third in strikeouts (122), ties for third in saves (5), fourth for innings pitched (212.0), and fourth in appearances (52).

The Lakehawks will host Bryant & Stratton College for a double header on Thursday, March 9 at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. Livestream video will be available to those who cannot attend.
