Lakehawk Softball Tossed a Pair of Shutout Mercy Rule Wins on Friday Afternoon

LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Behind 31 hits, seven home runs and 19 runs scored, the Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball team dished out a pair of shutout mercy rule wins over Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) on Friday afternoon. LSSC took game one 9-0 and game two 10-0.

Game one – Lake-Sumter 9, LLCC 0

The Lakehawks took game one in five innings. Lake-Sumter scored nine runs on 16 hits with three homeruns while also playing perfect defense

Raquel Camuglia led the Lakehawk offense after going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a homerun. Makenzi Heaton also went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a homerun.

Alex Adams went 2-for-3, also launching her first home run of the season.

Ali Shenefield moved to 9-0 on the season, after throwing a complete-game shutout allowing just one hit and one walk while fanning 10 Logger batters. With her ninth win, Shenefield now ties fifth for wins in a single season in the Lakehawk Softball record book.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 10, LLCC 0

The Lakehawks kept game two exciting after scoring 10 runs on 15 hits with four homeruns and perfect defense once again.

The entire starting lineup contributed offensively. Molly Bender, Reese Snipes, Kreighton Steinke, and Makenzi Heaton all recorded multiple hits.

Heaton and Adams recorded their second homeruns of the day and Snipes also added one to the mix. The biggest bat of the game came from Steinke who had her first home run of the season, which also turned out to be a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth.

Darrian Pippin recorded the complete-game shutout win on the mound, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out three Logger batters. Pippin improved to 6-3 on the season.

The Lakehawks improved to 17-9 on the season while extending their current win streak to seven.

Up next for the Lakehawks

The Lakehawks will host Queens College (NY) for a double header on Tuesday, March 7 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Livestream video will be available to those who cannot attend.
