Lakehawk Softball Splits Double Header at St. Petersburg College

St. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Softball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball team traveled to St. Petersburg, Fla. for a double header at St. Petersburg College. The Lakehawks and the Titans split the day, Lake-Sumter won game one and St. Petersburg taking game two.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 5 (7-2), St. Petersburg 2 (3-4)

The Lakehawks took the lead first in game one in the top of the second inning. Raquel Camuglia sent a single up the middle to lead off the inning.

Alexis Adams drew a walk and Kreighton Steinke hit an infield single to load the bases. Then, Bella Baez recorded a hit-by-pitch to score Camuglia from third.

The Titans tied the game up in the bottom of the third.

The game stayed tied until the fifth inning. Desiree Romeo led off with an infield single to the shortstop and was able to steal second the very next pitch.

Romeo advanced to third on a sac fly by Darian Pippin. Alexis Adamas came up with a two-out hit straight up the middle to score Romeo and take the lead 2-1.

The Titans answered back with a solo homerun by Kelsey Kadlub in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game back up.

The Lakehawks were able to seal the win in the top of the seventh inning. Romeo led the inning off with a single up the middle.

Pippin followed with a single to give Reese Snipes two baserunners. Snipes delivered with a deep ball to left scoring Pippin and Romeo.

Camgulia singled to the second basemen scoring Snipes. The final score for the first game came to 5-2.

Sophomore pitcher Ali Shenfield recorded the complete-game win allowing just two earned runs on six strikeouts, one walk, and nine hits. Shenefield is now 4-0 on the season after today's win.

Romeo, Pippin, Camuglia and Steinke all had two hits in game one. Snipes recorded two RBIs.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 1 (7-3), St. Petersburg 9 (4-4)

The Lakehawks fell to the Titans in game two 9-1 by mercy rule in the sixth inning. Lake-Sumter recorded seven hits but could not string them together in a row to score.

Snipes homered in the top of the sixth to put the Lakehawks on the board.

Camuglia went 3-for-3 and Steinke was 2-for-3, Romeo and Snipes being the only other Lakehawks to record a hit for the game.

Mia Lovett recorded the loss for game two with 3.2 innings pitched. Lovett moves to 0-2 on the mound for the season.

Lakehawk softball will be at home on Friday for a double header against Seminole State College at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
