McQuaig and Phelps Earn All-Conference Honors

Leesburg, Fla. – After a record-breaking 32 win season, the Lake-Sumter State College softball team has two named to All Mid-Florida Conference teams.

Rachel Phelps was selected second team All-MFC after a stellar sophomore campaign. The Belleview native ended her final season at LSSC hitting .304 with a .397 on-base percentage while leading the conference with 38 stolen bases. Phelps finished her career at Lake-Sumter as the single season record holder for stolen bases (38) and runs scored (50). She is also the career leader in stolen bases (63), runs scored (79) and at-bats (334). This season she led the nation in putouts at first base with 438 while only making eight errors. Phelps is a two-time selection for All-Conference.

Collecting double digit wins in the circle for the first time since 2014, Jasmine McQuaig earned second team All-Conference honors as well. McQuaig finished with a 10-3 record while boasting a 2.16 earned run average. The righty is now the career wins leader at Lake-Sumter with a two year total of 19 victories. Her 2.16 ERA is the lowest in a single season in program history. McQuaig leaves the Lakehawks with the most saves in a career (6) and is second all-time in strikeouts (135).

"These two were definitely a pivotal part of our success this season," said Head Coach, Jay Miller. "It's going to be extremely hard to replace them moving forward, but they helped lay the foundation for this program moving forward. I cannot say enough about them as people as well as student-athletes. They are great representatives of what our program stands for."
