TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Baseball) – Lakehawk baseball's Elvin Figueroa and Preston James were named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Division II Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances in the week of Mar. 11-17. Figueroa and James are both first-time recipients of this honor.
Elvin Figueroa – Player of the Week
In four games last week, Figueroa went 8-for-15 (.533) with eight runs scored, two doubles, one homerun, and nine RBIs.
On Wednesday against No. 7 ranked Northern Essex Community College (NECC), he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and six RBIs.
Later in the week against Sun-Lakes Conference opponent, No. 10 Pasco-Hernando State College, Figueroa went 5-for-7 with a homerun, three RBIs, and three runs scored in the double header.
For the season, Figueroa is batting .397 with a .482 on-base percentage, and .630 slugging percentage. He has 29 hits with five doubles and four homeruns, 19 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
Figueroa currently sits second in the conference for batting average, fourth in slugging percentage, and fifth for on-base percentage.
Preston James – Pitcher of the Week
James posted a 1-0 record on the mound last week in two appearances.
James threw 7.1 innings in total, allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out seven. He eanred his win against NECC with 2.2 innings pitched.
Later in the week, James threw 4.2 scoreless innings against Pasco-Hernando. He gave up just one hit while fanning three.
For the season, James has a 2-3 record on the mound. In 26.2 innings pitched, he has 22 strikeouts at 7.42 K/9 and a 1.72 WHIP.
