Williams Claims Third Straight RotW Title

Williams Claims Third Straight RotW Title

Region 8 Release

Leesburg, Fla. – Kyja Williams has continued her success for the Lake-Sumter State College women's cross country team this season with a third consecutive Region 8 NJCAA Division II Runner of the Week award.

Williams' sophomore season on the course has been nothing less than stellar. The Gainesville High School graduate has placed first among all NJCAA runners for three straight weeks. Each event has yielded a personal best time for Williams, which resulted in a 30 second cut from her previous best at the B3R Invitational.

Even on the heals of a 3-pete for DII Runner of the Week, the Lakehawks women's team slid down one more spot in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll. After coming in at No. 18 two weeks ago, LSSC finds themselves at No. 19 this week. The top three in the poll remain the same with Cowley CC (Kan.) still at No. 1.

After taking first place at the B3R Invitational, the men's cross country team climbed two spots from No. 11, up to No. 9 in the latest release. This marks the second time LSSC has found themselves inside the top 10 after opening the season at No. 6. There was a switch at the top of the men's poll this week with Allen CC (Kan.) taking over the No. 1 ranking from Cowley CC (Kan.), who fell to No. 2.

With two meets remaining before the Region 8 meet, Lake-Sumter will hit the road and head to Jacksonville, FL for the Florida State College Invitational on Friday.
