Amanda Phelps completed her eighth season at Lake-Sumter after taking over the program in the spring of 2016. Prior to taking the position, she enjoyed a stellar head coaching career at Lake Minneola High School.

Phelps added her second trip to the NJCAA National Tournament in 2021 after going for the first time in 2018. In 2021, the team's 15 conference wins, regular season winning percentage and 25 total wins were all program records. Kayla Chambliss became the program's all-time assists leader with 1605 assists. Xiomara Williams set the single-season record with 76 aces. As a whole, the team set new marks for assists (1449) and points (2034). The final record to fall was Coach Phelps 67th career win. Making her the winningest coach in program history.

A trip to the NJCAA National Tournament capped off a memorable 2018 season. Coach Phelps led her team to its first winning season since 2003, which included a District P/Region 8 championship. The victory gave Lake-Sumter its first trip to a national tournament by any team in any sport since athletics returned in 1998. Coach Phelps also produced the school’s first ever All-America selection in Emma Gray.

Phelps began her career at Saint Leo University in Dade City, FL. She played libero and was captain for two years. At St. Leo, she was the three-time Sunshine State Conference defensive player of the week nominee and a three-time member of the American Volleyball’s Association 30-dig club. Phelps also excelled in the classroom, receiving the Division II Athletics Directors Associations Academic Achievement Award, ESPN the Magazine All-Academic Third-Team, the SLU Women in Sports Achievement Award and graduated from the honors program.

After graduating from St. Leo with her bachelor’s, Phelps continued to pursue her passion for volleyball by accepting a graduate assistant position at the University of West Georgia where she coached for two years and received her Master’s in Business Administration.

Amanda resides in Winter Garden with her husband, Kevin Phelps. They have two children; their son, Hudson, and daughter, Harper.
