Lakehawk Volleyball Drops Pair of Conference Matches

LEESBURG, Fla. (Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) volleyball team went on the road over the weekend to Florida's panhandle to play Sun-Lakes Conference opponents Pensacola State College and No. 3 Gulf Coast State College. The Lakehawks lost 3-0 to both Pensacola and Gulf Coast State.

Lake-Sumter 0, Pensacola State 3 (10-25, 17-25, 22-25)

At their first stop of the trip, Lake-Sumter faced Pensacola State for the first time this season. The Pioneer offense outhit the Lakehawks 43 kills to 23.

Yarelis Lopez Osorio recorded eight kills with 12 digs. Kaylee Hunt recorded nine kills with 15 digs.

Defensively, sophomore libero Saniaa Dickey recorded 13 digs. Emily Warner added six digs with 16 assists for the match.

Lake-Sumter 0, No. 3 Gulf Coast 3 (16-25, 23-25, 23-25)

The Lakehawks traveled to Panama City, Fla. for the second leg of the panhandle trip to face nationally ranked Gulf Coast State. Lake-Sumter kept a close second and third set but could not pull out the win in either falling to the Commodores 3-0.

Hunt was the leader for the Lakehawks on both sides of the net, recording 10 kills with 12 digs.

Freshman setter Grace King posted 14 assists with 11 digs.

Gulf Coast State and Pensacola State will travel to Leesburg in October for their second regular season matchup. The Lakehawks currently sit fourth in Sun-Lakes Conference standing with a 1-2 conference record.

The Lakehawks will travel to Gainesville, Fla. to play Santa Fe on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6:00 p.m.
