FORT PIERCE, Fla. (Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) volleyball team opened their season on the road with a pair of matches against Hillsborough Community College (HCC) and Indian River State College (IRSC). The Lakehawks fell to both HCC and IRSC 1-3 in both matches.
Lake-Sumter 1, HCC 3 (26-24, 16-25, 26-28, 18-25)
Lake-Sumter faced HCC in their opening match of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Lakehawks took set one, ultimately fell short to the Lady Hawks in the three sets following.
For the match, Kaylee Hunt recorded nine kills, while Jayden Ponsford recorded eight with 11 digs.
Sophomore Yarelis Lopez Osorio posted 19 digs with five kills. Freshman setter Emily Warner recorded 28 assists and added 12 digs.
Lake-Sumter 1, IRSC 3 (17-25, 25-23, 16-25, 24-26)
The Lakehawks kept a tight match with the Pioneers from IRSC for four sets. After dropping the first set 17-25, Lake-Sumter took the second set 25-23.
IRSC snagged the third set with a 16-25 win before taking the fourth for the match in 26-24 over the Lakehawks.
For the match, Saniaa Dickey and Lopez Osorio recorded double digit digs to keep the Lakehawks in the game on defense. Dickey posted 14 while Lopez Osorio had 15.
Alanys Rodriguez Lozada recorded 12 assists and Warner added nine. Rodriguez Lozada and Warner also recorded six digs each.

The Lakehawks will have their home opener on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 6:00 p.m. against Santa Fe.
