Lakehawk Volleyball to Host Pink Night

Leesburg, Fla. (Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) volleyball team split their week of competition going 1-1 with a win on Friday at Trinity College and a loss in conference play to Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ).

Lake-Sumter 3, Trinity College 0

LSSC took three straight sets at Trinity College on Friday evening. The Lakehawks hit .206 for the match outscoring the Tigers 25-14, 25-14, 25-16.

Freshman Kaylee hunt led the Lakehawk offence with 11 kills, Katelyn Johnson had six kills and Megan Connolly had five. Alanys Rodriguez Lozada added 16 assists and Nadeshly Mojica-Rivera recorded 11 in the win.

Lake-Sumter 0, FSCJ 3

The Lakehawks fell to FSCJ in three sets in a hard fought match on Saturday afternoon. LSSC's fell to 8-9 on the year and 3-6 in Sun-Lake Conference play as the BlueWave moved to 6-2.

 The Lakehawks completed the match with 29 kills, 29 assists, seven total blocks, and 57 digs. Alyssa Guarino and Yarelis Lopez Osorio both backed the Lakehawks defensively both recording double-digit digs, Guarino with 14 and Lopez Osorio with 10.

At the conclusion of the match, the team recognized and honored their five sophomores Alyssa Guarino, Sheyenne Kimpel, Mackenzie Meyers, Katie Patrick, and Taylor Lawrence.

The LSSC volleyball team will host St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) at their seventh annual Pink Night on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6:00 p.m. The Lakehawks are encouraging all in attendance to wear pink in support of those in the battle against breast cancer. There will be a table set up with information about breast cancer awareness.  

SJRSC is currently ranked third in Division II Sun-Lakes Conference North Division Standings at a 6-2 conference record and 13-10 overall. This will be the first meeting between the Lakehawks and the Vikings this season.
