Volleyball Suffers First Loss of Season
Leesburg, Fla. – A revamped schedule had the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team playing two conference matches in less than 24 hours in a busy weekend.

Leesburg, Fla. – A revamped schedule had the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team playing two conference matches in less than 24 hours in a busy weekend.
LSSC welcomed South Florida State College Saturday afternoon. The Lakehawks entered the match with a perfect 2-0 record overall, while South Florida boasted a 2-4 record, 1-3 in conference. Led by Emma Rome's team leading 14 points, the Lakehawks won the match in three straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-18).
Kayla Chambliss totaled 29 assists with 11 digs while boasting a hitting percentage of .400. Xiomara Williams and Mikayla Simmons both ended the night with double digits digs, hauling in 15 and 13 respectively.
The second match of the weekend came the next morning against Palm Beach State College (3-3, 3-1). Lake-Sumter dominated early in the match, taking the first set 25-12 and the second set, 25-21. The wheels seemed to come off in the third set, with PBSC winning, 25-12. Palm Beach then rallied for a 25-20 victory in the fourth set to push a final fifth set. A back and forth battle ensued with the Panthers coming out on top, 16-14.
Williams led the team in scoring with 16 points, while collecting 14 digs. Chambliss dished out 39 assists alongside Simmons who added 25 digs.
Tuesday will mark the third straight home match for the Lakehawks (3-1, 3-1) who host Region 8 Division I affiliate, Santa Fe College (2-4, 1-3). The match is set to begin at 6 pm.
