Volleyball Knocks Off Top 10 Commodores

Leesburg, Fla. – Make it three wins in a row for the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team after defeating Gulf Coast State College Friday.

The beat rolls on for the Lakehawk volleyball team who took down No. 8 in the latest NJCAA poll, Gulf Coast in a key conference matchup. After winning their previous 11 out of 12 matches, GC met up with LSSC at the wrong time. The Lakehawks have been playing like a team possessed as of late, riding a three match winning streak and hitting the best they have all season.

It was a three set sweep over the Commodores by scores of 25-23, 25-17 and 25-19. Lake-Sumter hit .274 during the contest, the best they have recorded in a match all season long. Aleisha Marcano and Hailey Franklin finished in double digits kills with 13 and 11 respectively. Both players ended the night hitting over .415 in three sets. Nareliz Medina and Kelsie Savage combined for 37 assists and 11 digs while Hannah Yarbrough collected 18 digs on her own.

"They are getting it and it is clicking when they take the court," said acting Head Coach, Nate Camnitz. "It's exciting to see them be successful and it is even better seeing them play for each other. That is what makes this so awesome to watch. We are getting where we need to be at the right time in the season with the tournament right around the corner."

Next on the docket for the Lakehawks will be Pasco-Hernando State College (9-12, 3-5). During their first meeting, LSSC beat the Bobcats in four sets in Leesburg. Lake-Sumter (5-8, 4-4) will hit the road and head to New Port Richey for their second to last regular season conference matchup. Game time is set for 6 pm.
