Gomes Martins Receives State Recognition

Jacksonville, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College volleyball program is pleased to announce sophomore setter, Renata Gomes Martins has been selected as the 2018 Roberta Stokes Scholar Athlete Award recipient for Region 8.

The award is named after former Miami-Dade volleyball coach, Roberta Stokes. The criteria for the award is as follows:

-           The nominee must be a member of an FCSAA certified team and listed on the eligibility form.

-           The nominee must be a second season participant and have completed a minimum of 36 credits/hours.

-           The nominee must have an overall grade point average of at least a 3.30 on the scale of 4.0.

-           The nomination of a student/athlete must be accompanied by an official transcript from the institution and a letter of recommendation from the Athletics Director.

-           Citizenship and athletic prowess will be a factor in the selection process.

-           Each institution is entitled to one [1] nomination.

 

Gomes Martins is putting an exclamation point on an outstanding two-year career for the Lakehawks. The Brazil native has never posted a semester GPA below 4.0, logged several volunteer hours in the community, and been stellar on the court. She is a two-time Region 8 Setter of the Week award winner.

"I am incredibly proud of Renata and all that she has done for this program," said Head Volleyball Coach, Amanda Phelps. "This award shows that our region is just as impressed with the hard work that she has put in as we are. We are thankful to have her represent our school and conference and cannot wait to see what the future holds for this bright young lady."

Gomes Martins is set to graduate in May.
