Lakehawk Track & Field’s Palmer Qualifies for Nationals
Orlando, Fla. (Track & Field) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) track & field took five Lakehawks to compete against a highly competitive field at the UCF Knights Invite and produced impressive results.
Oksanna Smith and Kenyon Wells, both previously qualified for the NJCAA Track & Field Championships, competed in the 400-Meter Hurdles.
Wells clocked a time of 54.36, placing him third in his heat and ninth overall. He is currently ranked 17th nationally in the event.
Smith delivered a strong race as well, finishing second in her heat and 10th overall, with a time of 1:03.40 – just 0.3 seconds off her personal record (PR). She currently holds the 11th spot nationally in the event.
In the men's 3000-Meter Steeplechase, both Thatcher Clarke and Connor Parrish recorded PRs.
Clarke finished with a time of 10:28.53 to place eighth, while Parrish crossed the line at 10:11.97 for a fifth-place finish.
On Saturday, Spencer Palmer became the fourth individual to qualify for nationals by time for the 800m. Palmer posted a time of 1:53.24 to take sixth overall in a field of 38 competitors.
The Lakehawks will be in Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend for the East Coast Relays at the University of North Florida for their final regular season meet before the 2025 NJCAA Track & Field Championships later in May.
