Lakehawk Softball’s Thomas Named NFCA All-Region
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Softball) – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2025 NFCA NJCAA Division II All-Region teams on Tuesday afternoon. Lakehawk Softball's Sammi Thomas was named to the second team in the utility position.
The NFCA recognized 75 Division II student-athletes. Thomas was just one of five from the state of Florida to earn this honor; the other four come from St. Johns River State College.
Starting at six different positions this season, Thomas defined what a utility player is for the Lakehawks. In 114 total chances, Thomas posted a .921 fielding percentage with just nine errors in 46 games played.
"To be able to play so many different positions and at such a high caliber is very impressive. Sammi came to Lake-Sumter as an outfielder and ended up playing all three outfield positions, second base, shortstop, and even made one start at first base."
"With the NFCA South Region being so expansive and incredibly talented, it just proves how valuable contributions from a player like Sammi are. The more positions you play, the more valuable you are."
"Sammi never really knew where she was going to play from day to day, she just wanted to play. As a coach, I appreciate that mentality so much," said head softball coach Jay Miller.
Offensively, Thomas maintained a .403 batting average, .467 on base percentage, and a .476 slugging percentage finishing top-three on the team in those stat categories. She had 50 hits with 42 runs scored, 29 RBIs, 20 walks, and 17 stolen bases.
Thomas helped the Lakehawks to a second-place finish at the regional championship. She was named to the all-tournament team after going 7-for-11 with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Lake-Sumter finished the 2025 season with a 39-17 record, the second most wins in program history.
The NFCA will release the 2025 Gold Glove Teams on June 4.
