The Leather and Lumber Come Out in Daytona

The Leather and Lumber Come Out in Daytona

Leesburg, Fla. – The losing streak was snapped for the Lake-Sumter State College softball on Saturday in Daytona where the team collected 19 runs on 24 hits in the double header.

It was an offensive breakout for the Lakehawk hitters in game one. A five run first inning, followed by two more in the second, had the team feeling confident early in the game. Darian Pippin gave up two runs in the fourth, but her team answered right back by adding two runs of their own in the top of the fifth. The offense was not done yet, pushing across four more in the seventh. Pippin shutdown the Falcons the rest of the way out for the, 13-2, complete game victory.

Jordan Noble led the way with a 4 for 4 day at the plate and added and incredible diving catch in the bottom of the first inning in centerfield. Randa Motsinger had two hits, including a double, finishing the game with three RBIs. Makenzie Heaton came up clutch pinch-hitting with bases loaded and driving in two runs with a base hit up the middle.

Game two started off with both pitchers keeping their opponents off the scoreboard through the first three innings. A two-out base hit by Motsinger broke the tie as Desiree Romeo came in to score from third. LSSC went on to add two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. Daytona State managed one run off of the starter, Amber Griffin, as she tossed a complete game in the 6-1 win.

Motsinger, along with teammate Raquel Camuglia, collected two hits each in the second game. Noble continued her solid day at the plate with a single, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Heaton, once again, came through in pinch-hit duty with a single and an RBI.

Lake-Sumter (22-22, 3-7) will begin the second round of Mid-Florida Conference play on Saturday when they head to Palatka to take on St. John's River State College.
