Palmer Named FCSAA Runner of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Cross Country) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) named Lakehawk Cross Country's Spencer Palmer as the FCSAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5. Palmer earns this honor for the first time in his career at Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC).
Last weekend, Palmer and the Lakehawks competed at the Alligator Lake Invitational in Lake City, Fla. A top runner for the team as both a freshman last season and a sophomore this season, Palmer posted a PR of 26:49.9.
At last week's race, he finished third overall and first of runners from NJCAA schools.
"I am so proud of Spencer and the strides he continues to make. As a freshman, he was an integral part of our cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field national teams, and now he is stepping into this competition season with even more maturity and confidence," said Coach Snellgroves.
"His recent performance was a personal best on a true cross country course – one that is not as fast as others – which makes the achievement even more meaningful. Spencer has an incredible amount of talent and potential, and I believe this is only the beginning of a remarkable career ahead."
Previously, Palmer's fastest 8K time came in at 27:02.1 at the NJCAA DII Cross Country Championships last season. His freshman PR was good for 11th best in program history.
His new PR now ranks sixth in the Lakehawk record book, less than one minute from the program record.
Now, Palmer and the Lakehawks will take the next two weeks to prepare for their post season races.
The 2025 FCSAA Cross Country Championships are set for Oct. 24 in Tallahassee, Fla. The 2025 NJCAA Cross Country Championships are scheduled two weeks later in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Nov. 8.
