Lakehawk Half Marathon Team Takes Five Top-10 Spots at Game On! Half Marathon
FORT PIERCE, Fla. (Half Marathon) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) half marathon team competed in their first half marathon event at the Game On! Run Hutchinson Island Half Marathon in Fort Pierce, Fla.
Facing an early start before sunrise, increasing temperatures, and a challenging course throughout Hutchinson Island, the team rose to the occasion to take five of the top-10 spots, including the top-three overall.
Dylan Royal led the team to victory, capturing first place with a time of 1:27:44. Following close behind was Thatcher Clarke and Jovanni Matos to round out the top-three spots recording times of 1:29:08 and 1:29:15 respectively.
William Petersen showcased resilience after leading for over half the race and fighting off a severe cramp during, finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:34:26. Owen Kingery rounded out the team's effort with a 10th place overall finish with a time of 1:37:49.
Head Coach Cristy Snellgroves praises the team's accomplishments sharing, "It is thrilling to watch these athletes rise to the challenge of a half marathon and perform so well. Their hard work, resilience, and team spirit truly represent the heart of Lake-Sumter."
The team will prepare for their next half marathon race in Durham, N.C. on Sunday, Oct. 27.
