Leesburg, Fla. – This week, Lake-Sumter State College cross country was represented by not one, but two runners taking home the Region 8 men's and women's cross country runners of the week in the form of Kyja Williams and Alexander Croy.
Williams makes it back-to-back getting the women's selection for the second straight week. Once again, the sophomore runner found herself setting a personal best time crossing the finish line in 21:27.95. In a field of 60+ runners, Williams placed 12th overall, but 1st among NJCAA participants.
As for Croy, it was his first selection for the award. The South Lake High School alum put on an excellent performance at the FLRuners.com Invitational Friday coming in 4th overall, 2nd in affiliated runners and 1st among NJCAA runners. The race ended in a photo finish as Croy came through on a full out sprint and finished just 00:00.38 behind the affiliated winner.
Both runners are in exceptional form as cross country marks it's halfway point through the regular season. The next event for both teams will be October 2 at the B3R Sports Invitational in Ocala, FL.
