Cross Country Competes in Seminole Invitational

Cross Country Competes in Seminole Invitational

Oviedo, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College cross country programs are in the middle of their inaugural season schedule and just completed the Seminole State Invitational this past weekend.

The men competed in a 5k race against NJCAA affiliated Seminole State College, Daytona State College and Florida State College – Jacksonville. Their continued back and forth battle with the Raiders all season had the Lakehawks on the short end Saturday.

Seminole State placed 3 out of the top 5 runners in the event to take home first place with an average time of 16:44. William Troupe was the top finisher for Lake-Sumter placing fifth with a time of 16:50. Nicholas Atkinson finished 10th (17:19) with teammate, Alexander Croy coming in just seconds behind him (17:22). The team's average time ended at 17:25, putting them third at the Invitational.

Kyja Williams was the first finisher for the LSSC women's team with a time of 22:58, putting her just outside the top 10. Neelyam Lugo crossed the line just one second behind Williams to come in 11th. Brianna Mitchell and Isabel Panganiban both had solid showings on Saturday and are continuing to improve. The Lakehawks finished fourth with a team time of 25:55.

"The teams had some good individual performances this week and we came away with many things to work on improving over the next couple of weeks of training," said Head Coach, Cristy Snellgroves. "We will keep a strong focus on team dynamics and race strategy moving into the next meet at Disney."

Lake-Sumter will have a weekend off before turning their attention toward the Disney Cross Country Classic October 12.
