Lakehawk Golf Opens Inaugural Season with New College of Florida
BRADENTON, Fla. (Golf) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) golf team kicked off the inaugural season with a hard-fought match against New College of Florida on Monday afternoon at The River Club in Bradenton, Fla.
The team began the match with sunny weather and clear skies, but not soon after teeing off, were forced to battle heavy rain paired with an unfamiliar course layout. Despite a strong effort, they fell just short of a victory to the Mighty Banyons, 306-327.
Nate Williams led the way for the Lakehawks posting the team's lowest score at 77. Kasen Schlichenmaier finished close behind with a 79.
Head Coach Meredith Yaun shared her thoughts on the team's first performance of the season, "We have a lot to look forward to this year with this new team. The talent level is very high and I am excited to impart my experience of playing golf."
"Coach Lyda also brings a wealth of knowledge with golf and life to help these young men along the way this year," said Coach Yaun.
The Lakehawks look to rebound on Oct. 11 at their next match. Lake-Sumter will host Eastern Florida at the Green Valley Country Club in Clermont, Fla.
