Lakehawk Athletics Signs First Three Golfers for Inaugural Season
CLERMONT, Fla. (Golf) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Athletics has officially signed the golf program's first three student-athletes for the inaugural 2024-25 season.
Kylan Johnson
Kylan Johnson joins the Lakehawks as the golf program's first signee. Johnson is local to central Florida as a graduate of Circle Christian School in Winter Springs, Fla.
Johnson's career highlights include carding a 66 (-6) during a mini-tour event, securing a shared victory. Recently, he competed in the Valspar pre-qualifier where he carded a 75 (+3) from its 7,466-yard course at Southern Hills Plantation.
Bradley Parker
Bradley Parker was a four-year varsity letterman on the boy's golf team at Boone High School. He earned a position in the Conference Tournament lineup and District Tournament lineup all four years as a Brave.
In his freshman season, Parker was part of a team that advanced to the Class 3A Regional Tournament. He also attended Orange Technical College for welding where he was awarded best sculpture welder in the state and will now move on participate in the national competition in June.
Parker plans to study business during his time at Lake-Sumter.
Kasen Schlichenmaier
Kasen was a four-year varsity letterman on the boy's golf team at Boone High School. He participated in the team's Conference Tournament and District Tournament lineup his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
In his senior season, Schlichenmaier was an individual qualifier for the Class 3A Regional Tournament and was nominated for the All-Metro Conference Team.
While taking AP and honors classes at Boone, Schlichenmaier has been a full-time student at Valencia College through the Dual Enrollment program where he has maintained a 4.0 GPA. At Lake-Sumter, he plans on completing his AA and will continue on to major in business with an emphasis on professional sales.
Executive Director of Athletics Padraic McMeel shared his thoughts, "I am so excited that these three young men have chosen to join the men's golf team in its inaugural season at Lake-Sumter. They come from great families and bring tremendous academic and athletic success with them as we build a championship program.
"They are great additions to the Lakehawk family and we cannot wait to get the golf program started," said McMeel.
Lake-Sumter, Florida Gateway College, and Palm Beach State College join Daytona State College, Eastern Florida State College, and Seminole State College in adding golf for the 2024-25 season.
At this time, there is not a Florida College System Athletic Association (FCSAA) / Region 8 Championship established, but teams will have the opportunity to compete for a national championship in May of 2025.
