Mittauer and Ponsford Named NJCAA Beach Volleyball All-Americans
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Beach Volleyball) – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced the 2023-24 NJCAA Beach Volleyball All-American teams. Lakehawk Beach Volleyball's Braelyn Mittauer and Jayden Ponsford were named to the NJCAA All-America Second Team.
They become just the sixth and seventh Lakehawks in program history to receive this honor.
Mittauer and Ponsford, better known as "BraeJay" among their team, came together as the Lakehawks' No. 3 pair in the back half of the season.
As a duo, they went 10-0 in the post season proving to be an influential pair for the Lakehawks in championship play. They helped the team to a second place finish at the 2024 Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Beach Volleyball Championship and a fourth place finish at the 2024 NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championship.
On March 26, the duo was named the Region 8 Pair of the Week after posting a 3-3 record, their three losses coming against NCAA opponents, Erskine College and Florida Southern College. Mittauer and Ponsford are the first pair in program history to receive a Player of the Week honor.
At the 2024 FCSAA Championship, Mittauer and Ponsford were named to the All-FCSAA/All-NJCAA Region 8 Pairs team.
Next year, Mittauer will return to Lake-Sumter as a sophomore on the beach volleyball team. Ponsford will attend New College of Florida to play beach volleyball in their inaugural season in 2024-25 for her junior year.
