TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Beach Volleyball) – Lakehawk Beach Volleyball's Jayden Ponsford and Braelyn Mittauer were named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week for their performances in the week of Mar. 11-24. Ponsford and Mittauer are the first Lakehawk pair to receive this weekly honor.
In the past two weeks of competition, Ponsford and Mittauer played in six duals together as the Lakehawks' No. 3 pair. They went 3-3 on the court, with their losses being against four-year schools.
They opened their stretch of spring break matches with Stevenson University; an NCAA Division III team based out of Maryland.
In the first match of the day, they lost in three sets 11-21, 21-18, 14-16. In the second match, they came back with vengeance to defeat the Mustangs pair in two sets, 21-1, 21-19.
Later in the week Lake-Sumter had a dual with NCAA Division II Erskine College and St. Johns River State College (SJRSC).
The pair lost in two close sets to Erskine, 17-21, 19-21. Then they went on to defeat the Vikings' pair in two straight sets.
The following week, the Lakehawks hosted Florida Southern College for a dual on Monday, April 18.
Ponsford and Mittauer lost in three close sets 17-21, 19-21, 9-15. In their second dual, they were the only Lakehawk pair to push three sets against the Mocs, but were still unable to record a win.
The Lakehawks wrapped up regular season Sun-Lakes Conference play with Palm Beach State College. Ponsford and Mittauer defeated the Panthers pair 22-20, 21-16.
News regarding post-season competition will be released soon. Post-season awards will be announced on Thursday, April 17 on the first day of the beach volleyball championship.

Lakehawk Beach Volleyball prepares to close out the regular season at Saint Leo University on April 6 before traveling to Bradenton, Fla. for the 2024 FCSAA/Region 8 Beach Volleyball Championships April 18-20.
