Lakehawk Athletics 2024-25 Season in Review
LEESBURG, Fla. – As the 2024-25 season comes to a close, Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Athletics highlights the achievements of the student-athletes throughout the course of the year. Athletics saw a lot of success both academically and athletically from all 11 teams this year.
Overall, the athletic department posted a 3.22 grade point average with 67 student-athletes achieving above a 3.50. Additionally, 45 student-athletes participated in commencement.
Below are individual highlights from each LSSC team.
Baseball
- Team GPA – 3.38
- First FCSAA Championship Final appearance in program history
- First 30-win season in program history, first winning season since 2013
- NJCAA All-Academic Team (10)
- NJCAA Team Academic Award
- ABCA/Sports Team Academic Excellence
- Matthew Dumas named Dr. Robert and Merrell Westrick Male Student-Athlete of the Year at 2025 Hawkspys
- Aiden Sustarsic receives Tyler Reichwein Award at 2025 Hawkspys
- Coach Billings achieves 300 career wins
- 15 Student-Athletes continuing to play at four-year schools
Beach Volleyball
- Team GPA – 3.51
- Took fourth at NJCAA Championship, took third at FCSAA Championship
- NJCAA All-Academic Team (8)
- NJCAA Team Academic Award
- Mariana Comartin and Brooke Walker named NJCAA All-Americans
- Braelyn Mittauer named Dr. Robert and Merrell Westrick Female Student-Athlete of the Year at 2025 Hawkspys
Men's Cross Country
- Took third as a team at 2024 FCSAA Cross Country Championship
- Competed at both NJCAA Cross Country Championship and NJCAA Half Marathon Championship
- Spencer Palmer named Male Player of the Year at 2025 Hawkspys
Women's Cross Country
- Team GPA – 3.02
- Oksanna Smith named Female Player of the Year at 2025 Hawkspys
- Competed at both 2024 FCSAA and NJCAA Cross Country Championships
- NJCAA All-Academic Team (2)
- NJCAA Team Academic Award
Men's Golf
- Team GPA – 3.14
- Took fourth at 2025 District Championship
- Kylan Johnson, Kasen Schlichenmaier, and Tripp Watkins finished top-20 individually of nearly 60 golfers

Softball
- Team GPA – 3.36
- Second Place at 2025 FCSAA Championship
- Sammi Thomas named NFCA All-Region Second Team UT
- Amy Bak becomes first NFCA Gold Glove Team recipient in program history

- Four Student-Athletes continuing to play at four-year schools
Men's Track & Field
- Team GPA – 3.13
- Took 10 student-athletes to compete at NJCAA Track & Field Championships
