William and Croy Excel at ASICS Classic

Daytona, Fla. – It was another great day for the Lake-Sumter State College men's and women's cross country teams at the ASICS Classic on the campus of Embry-Riddle.

Over 700 runners, both men and women, took part in the Classic Saturday including 19 collegiate programs and 15 high school teams. A large field always makes for a more difficult event with runners fighting for position from start to finish.

With multiple NCAA affiliated programs competing, the LSSC men's team finished second overall and first in the NJCAA division. Alexander Cory was the top finisher for the Lakehawks with a time of 28:38.1, good enough for fourth in the NJCAA division. William Troupe followed quickly behind his teammate for sixth overall with a time of 28:38.4. Adolfo Saucedo-Flores and Nicholas Atkinson both finished inside the top 10. It was Josue Reyes who came in four spots ahead of Seminole State College's runner to help give Lake-Sumter the victory by one single point. The Lakehawks finished with 95 points while the Raiders came in second with 96 points.

It was the team's second consecutive win after taking first at last week's Mountain Dew Invitational.

On the women's side, Kyja Williams continues to impress with a time of 22:31.6, putting her inside the top 10 with a seventh place finish. Neelyam Lugo came in 11th place, but shaved an incredible :44 off of her time from a week ago where she placed 23rd in her division. The team finished fifth amongst NJCAA affiliated programs.

Saturday, the two teams will head to Oviedo for the Seminole State Invitational.
