TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Volleyball) – Lakehawk volleyball's Kaylee Hunt was named the National Junior College (NJCAA) Region 8 Division II Volleyball Player of the Week for performance from Sept. 4-10. Hunt receives this honor for the first time in her career at Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC).
In three Sun-Lakes Conference matches last week, Hunt averaged 3.6 kills, 4.2 digs, 4.0 points and 0.4 blocks per set in 10 sets played. In addition, she averaged 0.2 assists and 0.2 service aces per set.
The Lakehawks opened regular season conference play with a 3-1 win over Florida State College at Jacksonville on Wednesday. The sophomore outside hitter recorded a 17-kill, 15-dig double-double to lead the team to victory.
On Friday against Pensacola State, Hunt was one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 15 digs. Additionally, she recorded two blocks and an assist against the Commodores.
Hunt recorded her second double-double of the week against No. 3 Gulf Coast State College. She posted 10 kills with 12 digs on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Amanda Phelps shared her excitement towards this achievement for Hunt, "Kaylee has been a solid player in the first part of the season. It has been awesome to see her growth as a player shine through in these tough conference matches.
"Kaylee is an impact player and I am excited about what the future holds for her and the team for the remainder of the season," said Coach Phelps.
In Region 8 Division II, Hunt currently ranks in the top-10 for several stat categories. She sits third for kills (120), fifth for kills per set (3.00), fourth for points (136.5) and points per set (3.4), and eighth for digs (134).
Up next for the Lakehawks
Hunt and the Lakehawks will travel to Gainesville, Fla. on Thursday for a single match against Santa Fe at 6:00 p.m.
