Tallahassee, Fla. – Volleyball's Alyssa Guarino and men's cross country's Caleb Melendez were named Region 8 Players of the Week for their competition performance last week.
Alyssa Guarino – DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Guarino, earning her second DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season, averaged 4.3 digs per set in 10 sets played. The defensive specialist was all over the court for the Lakehawks as she recorded 19 digs against St. Petersburg on Wednesday and followed with 24 digs against FSCJ on Friday.
For the season, Guarino has 172 digs average 4.65 per set.
Catch Guarino and the rest of the Lakehawks volleyball team at home this weekend hosting conference opponents, Pensacola State College and Gulf Coast State College, and Andrew College.
Caleb Melendez – Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Melendez made an exciting race on Saturday morning at the Embry Riddle Cross Country Classic. In a field of 148 runners from Division I, II and NJCAA, Melendez finished 32nd overall and was the fastest of all NJCAA runners.
Melendez posted a personal best 8,000-Meter time of 28:23.
Melendez and the Lakehawks men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Saint Leo University this weekend for the St. Leo University Abbey Invitational.
