Lakehawks Open Conference 1-1

Lakehawks Open Conference 1-1

Leesburg, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team split their two matches going 1-1 on the week.

Palm Beach State College (1-3, 1-2) came to Leesburg to open up Sun-Lakes Conference play. The Panthers, who are in their first season at the NJCAA DII level came ready to play. PBSC took down the Lakehawks in three sets (25-10, 25-16, 26-24.) It was the first loss LSSC had suffered from a team outside the top 20 or in NJCAA DI.

The second match was again on the Leesburg campus, but this time the Lakehawks welcomed South Florida State College. It looked like a possible repeat performance with LSSC dropping the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-14. However, the team pulled it together with a dominant third set, winning 25-12. The fourth set was a back and forth battle early before the Lakehawks pulled away to the tune of a 25-18 set win. It was neck and neck through the fifth and final set with neither team trailing by more than two at any time. LSSC was able to put a run together at the end to take control and take the match with the 15-13 victory.

Four Lakehawks finished in double-digit in digs with Alyssa Guarino leading the way with 21. Yarelis Lopez Osorio walked away with a double-double totaling 16 kills and 14 digs. Kaylee Hunt had a solid outing, leading the team with 18.5 points.

LSSC (4-4, 1-1) will head to Pasco-Hernando State College (4-7, 1-1) Friday for their next matchup.
