Volleyball Goes 2-0 on Day One of Tournament

Lake City, Fla. – Opening day of the Gulf District Tournament could not have gone any better for the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team who won their first two games in six straight sets.

The No. 2 seeded Lakehawks took on No. 7 Gulf Coast State College in their first match of the tournament. After winning both regular season matchups, LSSC continued their winning ways taking the contest in three sets.

Their second match of the day had Lake-Sumter against the No. 3 seed, Pensacola State College. PSC had defeated Itawamba CC in round one. Each set was tightly contested, but the Lakehawks were able to come through when they needed it most down the stretch (25-23, 26-24, 25-17).

St. John's River State College, the No. 1 overall seed, won their first match against Palm Beach State College, setting the stage for Vikings vs Lakehawks III. The top two teams in the regular season, split their first two matchups. The first contest was a five-set thriller in which LSSC handed SJRSC their only conference loss of the season.

This matchup is a must-see and you can view it online when it begins Thursday at 4 pm. The winner will move into the championship match, set for Saturday at 1 pm.
