3 Consecutive Wins, 9 Consecutive Sets

Leesburg, Fla. – Since suffering their first loss of the season on September 14, the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team has not lost a set, much less a match, reeling off three straight victories in the process.

The first match last week pitted the Lakehawks against NJCAA DI affiliate, Santa Fe College. LSSC came out firing on all cylinders setting the tone right away with a 25-13 victory over the Saints. Set two was a hard-fought battle going into extra points, but ending up a Lakehawk win, 28-26. An early lead gave Lake-Sumter some breathing room, taking set three, 25-19, and the match.

Xiomara Williams fell one kill short of a double-double with nine while collecting 11 digs. Madison Heskett grabbed four block assists to go along with six kills in the victory.

Lake-Sumter got back to conference play with their next match coming on the road against Gateway College. The Lakehawks never allowed the Timberwolves to score more than 18 points in a single set (25-16, 25-18, 25-14).

After totaling just 10 assists against Santa Fe College, Kayla Chambliss got back to her giving ways dishing out 38 assists in just three sets. Erin Ellis and Williams both earned double-doubles on the night. Ellis notched 11 kills and 12 digs while her counterpart ended with 14 kills and 20 digs.

The final match of the week was another road contest. This time in Jacksonville against one of the newest members of the Sun-Lakes Conference, Florida State College – Jacksonville. Lake-Sumter controlled the first two sets and earned victories by scores of 25-18 and 25-21. Set three was a different animal with the Blue Wave putting their best volleyball against the Lakehawks trying to stave off losing the match. Stellar volleyball down the stretch by both squads pushed the set into extra points, with LSSC coming out on top, 26-24.

Emma Rome came through with a double-double, tallying 11 kills and 10 digs. Williams again led the way with 15 points. Viannie Kazan and Chambliss combined for 33 of the teams 37 assists in the match.

Lake-Sumter (6-1, 5-1) currently sits second in the conference by percentage points against St. John's River State College (13-3, 7-1) in the standings. Next up for LSSC will be St. Petersburg College (1-8, 1-8) on Wednesday. The match is set to begin at 6 pm and will be available for streaming on www.lakehawksports.com.
