Williams and Chambliss Earn All-Conference Honors

Williams and Chambliss Earn All-Conference Honors

Leesburg, Fla. – Lake-Sumter State College has two players selected to the Sun-Lakes All-Conference Team announced prior to the beginning of the tournament Thursday.

After a season filled with trials and tribulations, the Lakehawks find themselves in the second round of the conference tournament. The team decided to take the hardest route to get there, dropping their first two sets before winning three straight.

Before the start of the first round, the All-Conference teams were announced. Xiomara Williams earned a First-Team selection for her play during the '21 spring season. The freshman from Orlando ranks second in the state in kills per set (3.68) and points per set (4.1). Williams was a big part of the victory over St. John's River State College Thursday posting a double-double with 20 kills and 21 digs. It was her sixth double-double performance of the season.

Kayla Chambliss was selected to the Sun-Lakes All-Conference Second Team after a stellar freshman campaign. The Tallahassee native dished out over 500 assists in just 14 matches in 2021 and was second in the state averaging 9.53 assists per set. Her efforts were good enough to move into third in assists per set in a single season in program history. Chambliss posted eight matches of 40 or more assists, including an astonishing 65 against South Florida State College. Breaking the previous school record of 62 by Gabriela Hernandez in 2018.

Lake-Sumter will take on the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Gulf Coast State College at 1 pm Friday.
