Volleyball Adds Back-to-Back Wins

Leesburg, Fla. – With the end of the regular season approaching fast, the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team added a pair of much needed conference wins last week.

Pasco-Hernando State College (10-9, 5-3) made the trip to Leesburg Wednesday for their first meeting of the season. With scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-14 the Lakehawks made quick work of the Bobcats, winning the match in three straight sets.

Madison Heskett led the team with 12 kills while Aleisha Marcano added six kills of her own to go along with 11 digs on the night. Kayla Chambliss dished out 28 assists, averaging over nine per set. She finished with a double-double, leading the team with 13 digs in the victory. The team as a whole hit .349 in the match

Friday marked another home match for Lake-Sumter. This time, they matched up with Florida Gateway College (0-11, 0-8) on Sophomore Night. The Lakehawks took the first two sets, 26-24 and 25-17, before falling in the third set, 25-20. Set four saw LSSC pull away early and take the set and the match, 25-17.

For the fifth time this season, Chambliss finished with 40+ assists in a match, totaling 43 in the contest. Once again, she snagged a double-double with 15 digs. Marcano made her presence felt with 20 digs and 10 kills. The third and final double-double on the night went to Erin Ellis, who posted, a career high, 15 kills while collecting 13 digs in the victory.

Lake-Sumter (5-8, 4-4) is currently sitting fourth in the conference behind Pasco-Hernando and South Florida State College by just one game. This week will mark the final two matches of the season before heading into the conference tournament.

LSSC will head to Pasco-Hernando Tuesday to make up their match that was canceled earlier in the season. The Lakehawks will then host South Florida State College Wednesday at 6 pm to finish out the regular season.
