McGinnis Takes Home Weekly Award

Leesburg, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team fell to conference foe, South Florida State College in four sets Wednesday night.

South Florida took the first two sets (25-22, 25-17) before LSSC took set three, 25-19. Set four was tightly contest, but the Panthers took control down the stretch to claim the set, 25-21, and the match. The loss put the team's record at 2-4 overall, 1-2 in conference play.

Kayla Chambliss dished out 42 assists on the night. The setter has collected 40 or more assists in 3 out of 4 matches this season and is currently averaging 10.8 per set. Xiomara Williams and Aleisha Marcano both ended with double digit kills totaling 11 and 10 respectively.

Announced Tuesday, Macey McGinnis made it back-to-back weeks as the Region 8 DII Defensive Player of the Week recipient. The sophomore averaged 4.3 digs over four sets last week in two matches, including 11 digs in a losing effort to Gulf Coast State College.

Lake-Sumter will be back on the road Friday, headed to Florida Gateway College for a 6 pm match time.
