Leesburg, Fla. – After tearing off a three match win streak, the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team hit a recent skid dropping 2 of their 3 matches this past week.

Wednesday marked the second contest against Pasco-Hernando State College this season. Just like their first meeting, the match ended after four sets. However, the Lakehawks found themselves on the wrong end this time. Lake-Sumter took set number one, 25-23, and then dropped the next three sets. The Bobcats took the win by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-18.

Lake-Sumter hit the road for the final time in the regular season Friday, taking on Florida Gateway College. Similar to their first meeting, the Lakehawks won in three straight sets by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-20.

The match meant the end of the Sun-Lakes Conference schedule before the tournament. Gulf Coast still has to play South Florida State College and Pasco-Hernando. Once those matches are completed, Lake-Sumter will know what seed they will be heading into the Regional/District Tournament in a couple weeks.

Eastern Florida State College took the trip to Leesburg on Saturday for non-conference action. After winning the first two sets 25-18 each, the Lakehawks failed to put away the Titans over the next three sets. Eastern Florida battled back with victories in sets three and four (25-21, 25-18) to push the match to five sets. A back and forth battle early on, but the Titans took control of the set claiming the 15-11 win, giving them the match as well.

Hailey Franklin and Talyn Allard led the team with 12 kills each. Kitana Lim collected 20 digs while adding eight kills and two block assists. Star Lakin ended the night with a double-double totalling 26 assists and 10 digs to her credit.

Saturday was a special day for the volleyball program as nine sophomores were honored for their dedication to the program. Franklin, Lakin, Allard, Lim, Amber Schwartz, Ember Oglesby, Amari Owens, Olivia Diggs and Skylar Martin all took the walk with their families across the court. Student trainer, Hannah Crowe, was also given a round of applause for everything she has done over the previous two years.

The Lakehawks were able to add one more match to their schedule against Central Florida. Tuesday will mark the final home game of the season and is slated to start at 7 pm.
