Gray Makes School History

Gray Makes School History

Charlotte, NC – Their season may have ended in mid-November, but the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team continues to make national headlines.

Emma Gray was announced as an Honorable Mention All-American on Tuesday afternoon. Gray completed her playing career at Lake-Sumter on Nov. 14 after helping her team to an 11th place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament in Charleston, WV.

The local product from First Academy Leesburg is wrapping up a decorated two years as a Lakehawk. Gray finished top five all-time in kills (529) and total attacks (1729). After elevating her game to the next level, Gray received national recognition in the wake of the Regional Tournament being named National Player of the Week by the NJCAA.

"I am so incredibly proud of Emma," said Head Volleyball Coach, Amanda Phelps. "She has worked so hard to get here and I can't think of anyone more deserving. She is a great teammate and I know everyone from this program is proud of her as well!"

Gray becomes the first All-America selection to come from Lake-Sumter for any sport. This past season, the Fruitland Park native helped lead her team to the first National Tournament appearance in LSSC athletics history.
