Lake-Sumter Opens Consolation Round with Oakland CC

Lake-Sumter Opens Consolation Round with Oakland CC

Charleston, WV – After suffering a first round loss to Lincoln Land CC Thursday, the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team will take on Oakland CC Friday morning in the consolation side of the bracket.

The No. 14 seeded Oakland Community College, out of Michigan, finished the 2018 regular season with a 20-9 record. The Raiders were 5-0 at home, but one game over .500 (8-7) when playing at neutral sites. OCC found themselves in the colocation bracket with Lake-Sumter after losing to the No. 3 seed Johnson Co. Community College in four sets Thursday.

Similar to the Lakehawks, the Raiders have not been in the NJCAA Top 20 poll at any time this season. Although they did receive votes in the poll during the month of October. The matchup of No. 14 Oakland CC and No. 11 LSSC looks even on paper. In Friday morning's matchup, the Lakehawks will be the home team since they are the lower seed in the contest.

For the rest of the tournament, the schedule is mapped out for Lake-Sumter. A loss in any of these contests will mean the end of the season for the Lakehawks. The remaining schedule will be as follows:

Friday 10 am vs Oakland CC
Friday 4:30 pm vs Catawba Valley or Northern Virginia
Saturday 9 am 9th Place Match (TBD)
