Leesburg, Fla. – With the winter break quickly approaching, spring sports are beginning to come into focus. Wednesday, the Lake-Sumter State College softball team released their 2020 spring schedule.

For the third year in a row, the Lakehawks will host Georgia Highlands at home Friday, Jan. 31 for Opening Day beginning at 1 pm. The following day the team will head to Clearwater for the Junior College Classic. Opponents will be determined closer to the event.

A couple of northern schools will be making the trip down to take on Lake-Sumter this spring. North Idaho Community College will be in Leesburg for their season opener Friday, February 28. The only Sunday game of the season will take place March 8, against the Lincoln Land Community College Loggers. LLCC has been making the trip to Leesburg for close to 10 years.

LSSC will open their conference schedule against two top 20 teams in the NJCAA. Saturday March 14 will be the conference home opener against Central Florida State College. The Patriots are coming off of a season where they went 58-11, earning a spot in the NJCAA World Series. The second game of the conference schedule will pit the Lakehawks against the No. 7 team in NJCAA at the end of 2019, Seminole State College.

"I believe our conference is the best in the state," said Head Coach, Jay Miller. "It will be a battle for those top four spots to get into the conference tournament." Miller went on to say, "In junior college, the landscape changes every season with teams turning over close to 50% of their roster each year. You never know what's going to happen when the season starts."

Pasco-Hernando State College will take on the Lakehawks in Leesburg Thursday, April 16 for Sophomore Day. All sophomores will be honored before the start of game one at 2 pm.

The season will wrap up on the road in Gainesville. Lake-Sumter will take on Santa Fe College with possible post season implications on the line. Game one will begin at 1 pm.
