Softball Ends Week with Back-to-Back Wins

Leesburg, Fla. – After struggling through the first part of the week, the Lake-Sumter State College softball team broke out the bats for two wins on Friday.

Tuesday, the Lakehawks headed to Bradenton to take on State College of Florida – Manatee. The first game on the docket was the suspended game from Feb. 7. Going into the fifth inning, LSSC was trailing 7-2. After adding a couple hits, the Lakehawks were unable to bring any runs around and fell, 7-2. Game two was a close game with Lake-Sumter missing key opportunities with runners in scoring position giving SCF the 6-3 win. Abbey Primavera suffered a complete game loss in the final contest of the night, 3-0.

Pasco-Hernando made the trip to Leesburg on Thursday and left with two wins. The Bobcats took game one 4-3 with the Lakehawks coming up just short in the seventh inning trying to complete the comeback. Cissy Doolittle tossed a complete game loss in game two coming up on the wrong side of a 3-0 score.

The bats finally broke out Friday when the Lakehawks went to NTC for the Spring Games. Game one was against Augustana JV. Down 2-0, LSSC countered with a six run bottom of the third to go up 6-2. Primavera was pulled after four innings and a combo of Emily Murphy and Brandi Davis kept the Augustana bats at bay. Jenna Curtis and Amanda Quinby knocked two hits each while Nini Underwood came off the bench to drive in two RBIs with two outs in the third. Doolittle also came through with a two out base hit to bring around two more runs. The Lakehawks snapped their losing streak with a 9-4 win.

Game two saw a continuation of the offense bursting onto the field. Two runs in the first and then three more in the third gave LSSC a 5-0 lead early. Allie Geier was dominant in the circle carrying a no hitter into the fifth inning. The lefty went all five innings allowing just one hit while striking out three in the team's 8-0 run rule victory. Jennifer Bryant was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Alysha Bolling added a double of her own and scored twice in the win.

The Lakehawks move their season record to 10-15 on the season. Tuesday, Lake-Sumter will travel to St. Pete College to finish their suspended game from Feb. 14. They will begin the contest in the eighth, tied at 5-5. They will follow up the completion of that game with a regularly scheduled double header.
