Leesburg, Fla. – After a tough start, the Lake-Sumter State College softball team ended the week with back-to-back wins.

The full slate of games started Tuesday on the road against South Florida State College. Two very close fought games, but the Lakehawks came up short each time. Game one was a 5-3 loss while game two took extra innings to complete. Lake-Sumter took a 5-4 lead in the top of the eighth before the Panthers fought back with two runs in the bottom half for the 6-5 victory.

Thursday, LSSC welcomed State College of Florida – Manatee to Leesburg for a double header. The Manatees took a 2-0 lead after three innings. Casey Allen came up in the bottom of the fourth and hit her first collegiate home run. A two run shot to knot the game up at 2-2. The game remained tied through regulation and headed into extra innings. SCF was able to get three runs across home plate in the top of the eighth and the Lakehawks were unable to match, falling 5-2.

Game two was suspended due to darkness and will be resumed Feb. 19 when the two teams meet up again. The Manatees held a 7-2 lead in the fifth.

The final series of the weekend is also the longest trip of the year when the Lakehawks traveled down south to Palm Beach State College. Abbey Primavera had another solid start in the circle going five innings, allowing just two earned runs. Back-to-back two out doubles by C. Allen and Jennifer Bryant plated two runs in the first for Lake-Sumter. C. Allen wasn't quite done hitting her second home run in three games in the fourth inning. Allie Geier closed out the 7-4 win from the rubber.

Emily Murphy started game two and help PBSC to one run over the first three innings before giving way to Brandi Davis. The Lakehawks took a 3-1 lead after the first two innings of play. The Panthers battled back with two runs in the fourth to tie it up 3-3. C. Allen managed to scamper home on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning to put her team back on top. Palm Beach threatened with two on and one out in the seventh. A game saving, diving stop by Nini Underwood in the hole resulted in the second out of the inning at third base. Davis got the next batter to flyout to centerfield securing the 4-3 victory.

Lake-Sumter moves to 6-7 on the year. They will meet up with Polk State at home on Tuesday. Game one slated for a 1:30 start time.
