Lakehawks Headed to Postseason Play

Leesburg, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College softball team punched their ticket to the Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Monday with a sweep of Santa Fe.

After a walk-off single by Nini Underwood to take game one, 4-3, the Lakehawks had all but clinched a spot in the conference tournament. Jasmine McQuaig notched win number 10 on the season with the complete game victory in the circle. With other games possibly affecting the outcome, a sweep of the Saints would put them in the dance for sure.

Game two saw lefty, Allie Geier throw a complete game in which she gave up one unearned run. The offense got going from the first inning on putting up three runs in their first at bat. LSSC added three more in the fourth to give their starter some breathing room.

With runners on first and second, one away, the Saints were threatening for the first time in the game. A hard shot to third baseman Lucia Esposito resulted in a game ending 5-3 double play, clinching a postseason berth.

"These girls deserve all the credit with what they've done on the field," said Head Coach, Jay Miller. "This group did a lot of things that this program hasn't seen in a long time and I am so proud of them!"

Lake-Sumter softball has set a record for wins in a season (32), posted their highest finish in program history (tied 3rd) and will head to the first ever conference tournament.

The Lakehawks will travel to Daytona State Tuesday for a one game playoff to open up the MFC tournament. Game time is set for 4 pm.
