Andrew Merchant Named Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Baseball) – Lakehawk baseball's Andrew Merchant was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week for his performance in the week of Apr. 8-14. Merchant earns this honor for the first time this season.
Over the weekend, Lake-Sumter continued Sun-Lakes conference play with a three-game series against St. Johns River State College (SJRSC). For the series, Merchant hit .600 (6-for-10) while reaching safely in all three games.
Merchant's best performance came in game two against the Vikings where he helped the Lakehawks to a 7-4 victory. He went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.
For the season, Merchant maintains a .336 batting average, a .448 on-base percentage, and a .496 slugging percentage. He has 46 hits with 13 doubles and homeruns.
Additionally, he has 27 RBIs, 25 runs scored, 18 walks, and seven stolen bases.

Merchant and the Lakehawks will continue play non-conference opponent Santa Fe College on Wednesday Apr. 17 at The Hawks Nest at 3:00 p.m.
