Early Game Lead Not Enough For Lakehawk Baseball to Hold Off TCC

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball team traveled to Tallahassee Community College on Friday in their second matchup of the season. The Lakehawks fell to the Eagles 10-11.

The Lakehawks took a 2-0 lead over the Eagles in the bottom of the first inning. With a leadoff walk from Ryan Jenkins, Jacob Delano stepped up his first at-bat with a double to left to score Jenkins from first.

Delano advanced to third on a ground ball. Camden Williamson drew a walk creating a first and third situation for the Eagles.

On Williamson's attempt to steal second, Delano was able to steal home on the throw giving the Lakehawks a 2-0 lead.

TCC tied up the score at 2-2 with four hits in the bottom of the first before the Lakehawks put five more runs in the top of the second.

With two runners on, Joelvis Fernandez Angeles blasted a three-run homerun, his first of the season.

Back-to-back singles from Elvin Figueroa and Williamson scored two more for a 7-2 Lake-Sumter lead after two innings.

In the bottom of the third, TCC added one to the board with a solo homerun from Gregory Melo.

Lake-Sumter extended their lead by one in the sixth. Luke Bentley led off the inning with a walk, followed by a single from Jenkins.

Delano then placed a sac bunt to move the runners into scoring position. Tad Brooks recorded the RBI to score Bentley with a sacrifice fly to right field.

In the bottom of the sixth, a big five-run inning from TCC tied the score up at 8-8. The Eagles tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh for an 11-8 lead.

A pair of hits from Jenkins and Delano in the top of the eighth brought the score to 11-9.

In the Lakehawks' last chance at-bat, back-to-back doubles from Andrew Merchant and Elvin Figueroa brought the score within one of TCC, but their comeback efforts were ultimately not enough.

Delano went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and one walk. Jenkins went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Starting pitcher Larson McMaster tossed 5.0 innings holding the Eagles to just three runs on seven hits. Cristian Montes recorded the loss on the mound after allowing two runs on two walks in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lake-Sumter improved to 4-9-1 on the season, while TCC improved to 7-6.
