Lakehawk Baseball Drops Close Game to Polk State

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball hosted Polk State College on Wednesday afternoon. In a close matchup, the Eagles defeated the Lakehawks 2-0.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when Aaron Stelogeannis scored on a wild pitch after a two-out double.

The Eagles added to their lead in the top of the ninth after a leadoff single from Greg Pettay. Pettay eventually scored their second run by fielder's choice.

The Polk State pitching staff held the Lakehawks to just three hits on the day. Luke Bentley went 2-for-3, while Ryan Villaman went 1-for-3.

Four Lakehawks, Preston James, Bryan Burtoft, Trey Clinton, and Cristian Montes, saw time on the mound against the Eagles.

Butoft threw 3.2 innings recording three strikeouts, with two hits and two walks. Montes closed the final 1.1 innings allowing one run on two hits.

James recorded the loss with four innings pitched, allowing just one run on two hits with eight strikeouts. James moves to 0-1, and the Lakehawks move to 1-3-1 on the season.
