Conference Play Begins Monday

Leesburg, Fla. – Monday marks the Mid-Florida Conference opener for the Lake-Sumter State College baseball team who enter with an 11-10 record.

This season has certainly been one of those "when you're hot, you're hot" seasons for the Lakehawks. The bats have busted out for seven or more runs in a ball game 10 times in 2020 with the team averaging 6.8 runs per game. On the other side, opponents are scoring just under six runs a game on LSSC.

Naphis Llanos has been on tear as of late hitting safely in 9 out of their last 10 ball games with two doubles and nine runs scored. The freshman is hitting .373 on the year with a team leading 28 hits through the first 21 games. Gabriel Dorsey is second with 25 hits and is tied with Chenar Brown for the team lead in HR's with two. Kobie Leonard has been a menace on the base paths collecting 16 stolen bases to go along with a .308 batting average.

In five starts, Jake Janata boasts a record of 3-0 with 28 strikeouts in just over 22 innings pitched. Bryant Heston is also having a solid sophomore campaign with a 1-0 record and a 2.59 ERA in 24 1/3 innings. Aaron Perry and Seth Wysocki have both tallied two wins on the season as well.

Lake-Sumter (11-10) will host St. John's State River College (16-8) at 3 pm Monday as MFC play begins across the state. First pitch is slated for 3 pm.
