Baseball Back to Winning after 12-4 Victory

Leesburg, Fla. – After a tough three game skid, the Lake-Sumter State College baseball team got back to their winning ways on Monday with a 12-4 victory over Southeastern University JV.

Palm Beach State paid a visit to Leesburg last Friday to start off a heavy weekend slate of ball games. The Lakehawks jumped out to an early 2-1 lead through the first three innings. PBS responded with a three run fourth before adding one run in the fifth, two in the seventh and one more in the eighth. LSSC staged a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but fell short, 8-4.

The Titans of Eastern Florida were next on the schedule. If you like offense, this was the game to watch as the teams totaled 20 runs on 21 hits in nine innings. A big fourth and fifth inning opened the door for the Titans who held an 11-2 lead after five and a half played. Lake-Sumter fought back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but would come up short, 13-7.

Sunday marked the third straight home game for the Lakehawks as they hosted South Florida State in their second meeting of the year. In the first contest, LSSC put up 18 hits on their way to a 15-8 victory. The Panthers were on the board with two runs after the first inning of play. LSSC knotted the game up with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Both teams continued the back and forth battle heading into the ninth tied at 5-5. SFSC managed to scrape two runs across and then hold off the Lakehawks bats in the bottom half to secure the 7-5 victory.

The bats broke out for Lake-Sumter in their fourth straight day of competition on Monday. The team totaled 12 runs on 12 hits. Gabriel Dorsey earned his first collegiate win of his career in the 12-4 win over Southeastern University JV. Dorsey went five innings, collecting eight strikeouts and allowing just four hits. Robbie Scott continued his great start to the season going 4 for 5 with three runs scored. Kobie Leonard knocked three hits of his own while Collin Teegarden drove in three RBIs with a triple.

Mickey Skole has been turning it on as of late to the tune of a .421 batting average with two extra base hits and five RBIs in six games played. Skole has also tallied seven walks attributing to his .577 OBP.

Lake-Sumter (3-5) will head to Indian River Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for a 3 pm.
