Scott and Martin Off to Hot Starts

Scott and Martin Off to Hot Starts

Leesburg, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College baseball team has been experiencing growing pains as of late with the young team still adapting to the college game.

Although the team hit a skid, they have been very competitive losing 5 of 7 by two or less runs. Averaging close to five runs a game, the Lakehawks are right on the cusp of turning the corner this season.

Seth Martin is currently second on the team hitting just under .300 (.298). The freshman leads the team with 20 total bases and four extra base hits. Robbie Scott continues his great start leading the team with a .328 batting average while knocking in 12 RBIs. Scott is top 15 in the region with 17 hits and in RBIs.

Scott has collected three three-hit ball games while Alan Alonso and Angel Padilla each have one this season. Maurice James is tied for the team lead along with Scott totaling five stolen bases. Collin Teegarden continues to get on base at a fast clip carrying a .467 OBP with a team leading 15 walks. Good enough for third in the region.

Quinn Echelson has been extremely reliable out of the pen for LSSC this season, boasting a microscopic 0.75 ERA in seven relief appearances. Cameron Recny has 17 strikeouts in just 12 1/3 innings pitched. In three starts, Fletcher Byrd has kept the scoring to a minimum with a 2.40 ERA and opponents hitting .219 off of him.

Next up on the schedule for the Lakehawks will be St. Pete College on the road. They will play one nine inning game on both Friday and Saturday. Start time for both games will be 1 pm.
