Lakehawk Beach Volleyball Drops Two Non-Conference Matches

TAVARES, Fla. (Beach Volleyball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) beach volleyball returned to Hickory Point on Monday for a pair of non-conference matches against Florida Southern College. The Lakehawks fell to the Mocs 5-0, 4-1.  

No. 5 par Rylee Martineau and Mazi Watson logged the first Lakehawk loss in two sets, 15-21, 5-21.

No. 4 Berklee Andrews and Allie Cox took the Mocs pair to three sets, keeping the dual close, but fell short in the final set. The final score was 18-21, 21-15, 12-15.

No. 2 pair Leanne Blue and Cassidy Rountree lost in two quick sets, 17-21, 14-21.

The No. 3 and No. 1 pairs both forced three sets against the Mocs, but neither could find a dual win for the Lakehawks.

Braelyn Mittauer and Jayden Ponsford lost the threes, 17-21, 21-19, 9-15. Kaylee Hunt and Yarelis Lopez Osorio lost the No. 1 pair dual, 21-14, 10-21, 10-15.

In exhibition, Audrey Pickle and Cecilia Calton played two close sets with the Mocs No. 6 pair. The final score came out to 15-21, 19-21.

After a short break, Lake-Sumter and Florida Southern got back in the sand for their second match.

Martineau and Watson lost in two sets, 21-23, 13-21.

Andrews and Cox sought revenge after a close three set dual earlier in the morning. They defeated the Mocs' No. 5 pair, 21-71, 21-18, the Lakehawks' only dual win of the day.

Blue and Rountree lost in two close sets, 17-21, 17-21, at the 3s slot. No. 1 pair Hunt and Lopez also lost in two sets, 19-21, 11-21.

Mittauer and Ponsford pushed three sets again, but fell short for the second time, 13-21, 21-19, 11-15.

In exhibition, Sydney Pickle and Jaylen Memmoli lost in two sets, 19-21, 9-21.

The Lakehawks move to a 7-9 overall record, 3-3 Sun-Lakes Conference record. Lake-Sumter currently ranks third in conference standing.

Lakehawk beach volleyball will be back at Hickory Point for a Sun-Lakes Conference dual with Palm Beach State College on Friday at 12:00 p.m.
