TAVARES, Fla. (Beach Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) beach volleyball team traveled to Palatka, Fla on Friday for a Trimatch with St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) and Palm Beach State College (PBSC) and then hosted State College of Florida (SCF) on Monday afternoon. The Lakehawks earned victories over SJRSC and fell to PBSC.

Match One – Lake-Sumter 4, SJRSC 1

In their second Sun-Lakes Conference matchup, the Lakehawks defeated the Vikings 4-1.

No. 5 pair Berklee Andrews and Alanis Figueroa secured the first Lakehawks win of the day winning in two sets, 21-5, 14-21.

No. 4 pair Leslie Catlett and Jayden Ponsford were the only loss of the match, falling in three close sets to the Vikings pair, 19-21, 21-18, 13-15.

No. 1 pair Alyssa Guarino and Kaylee Hunt won their dual in three sets, 22-20, 21-16, 15-13.

No. 2 pair Kaylin McCann and Cassidy Rountree defeated the Viking pair in two sets, 21-19, 21-17. No. 3 pair Leanne Blue and Yarelis Lopez Osorio also won handily in two sets, 21-13, 21-16.

Match Two – Lake-Sumter 1, PBSC 4

Lake-Sumter and Palm Beach State met for the fourth time this season. The Lakehawks fell to the Panthers 5-0.

No. 4 pair Catlett and Ponsford lost in two sets, 14-21, 11-21. No. 5 pair Andrews and Figueroa lost in three sets, 21-12, 13-21, 9-15.

No. 1 pair Guarino and Hunt lost in two sets, 11-21, 13-21. No. 2 pair McCann and Rountree also lost in two sets, 13-21, 7-21.

No. 3 pair Blue and Lopez Osorio lost in three sets, 17-21, 14-21.

In exhibition, No. 6 pair Mazi Watson and Maddison Perez lost in two sets, 16-21, 10-21.

Match Three – Lake-Sumter 4, SCF 1

Lake-Sumter hosted SCF on Monday afternoon in their final conference match of the season. The Lakehawks defeated the Manatees 4-1, their second win over SCF of the season.

No. 4 pair Catlett and Ponsford defeated the SCF pair in two sets, 21-8, 21-6. No. 5 pair Andrews and Figuergoa won in three sets, 21-23, 21-10, 15-5.

No. 1 pair Guarino and Hunt were the only loss for the match, falling in two sets, 18-21, 12-21.

No. 2 pair McCann and Rountree won in three sets, 21-14, 21-23, 15-8. No. 3 pair Blue and Lopez Osorio also won in three sets, 21-8, 14-21, 15-11.

In exhibition, No. 6 pair Watson and Allie Cox won in two sets, 21-14, 21-17.

The Lakehawks are now 4-6 overall this season, 3-3 in conference play. Lake-Sumter currently ranks second, tied with SJRSC, after PBSC headed into the state tournament.

Lakehawk beach volleyball will prepare for the upcoming Region 8 tournament on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 31 and Apr. 1.
