TAVARES, Fla. (Beach Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday afternoon. The Lakehawks defeated Warner University 4-1 and fell to Palm Beach State College 5-0.
Match One – Lake-Sumter 4 (2-1), Warner University 1 (0-1)
The Lakehawks started the day with a 4-1 win over Warner University.
No. 2 pair Leanne Blue and Cassidy Rountree won the first dual of the day in two sets 21-17, 21-18. No. 4 Yarelis Lopez Osorio and Jayden Ponsford followed with an exciting three-set win 21-17, 17-21, 15-13 to give the Lakehawks a 2-0 lead head into the second set of duals.
No. 5 pair Berklee Andrews and Allie Cox won handily in two sets, 21-7 and 21-11 to secure the team win for the Lakehawks
The only loss for the match came from No. 3 pair Kaylin McCann and Leslie Catlett. They fell in the dual in three sets, 12-21, 21-15, 9-15.
The final dual was No. 1 pair Alyssa Guarino and Kaylee Hunt winning in three sets over the Royals pair.
In exhibition, No. 6 pair Mazi Watson and Maddison Perez fell to Warner's pair in three sets, 21-17, 17-21, 14-16.
Match Two - Lake-Sumter 5 (2-2), Palm Beach State 5 (4-0)
LSSC faced Sun-Lakes Conference opponent Palm Beach State in the second match of the day. The Lakehawks fell to the Panthers 5-0.
No. 2 pair Blue and Rountree lost in two sets, 8-21, 12-21. No. 4 Lopez Osorio and Ponsford followed with a two-set loss, 20-22, 19-21.
No. 1 Guarino and Hunt lost in two sets, 13-21, 9-21. No. 5 Andrews and Cox followed with an exciting three-set dual but ended up losing their early lead, 21-18, 8-21, 11-15.
The last dual to finish was No. 3 McCann and Catlett. The pair went two sets and eventually fell to the Panther pair 14-21, 18-21.
Up next for the Lakehawks
Lakehawk beach volleyball will take the next month to train in preparation for their next pair of matches. The Lakehawks will host State College of Florida and Palm Beach State on Friday, March 10.
The sophomore day celebration will also take place at the match. the beach volleyball sophomores to be recognized are Leslie Catlett, Alyssa Guarino, and Kaylin McCann.
